Fun lunches for children

Many parents send their child's lunch to school with them, but the child may not want to take a sack lunch to school. If all their friends are eating on a tray from the cafeteria, your child may not understand why they have to bring theirs from home. But, as the parent, you have your reasons. Maybe it's cheaper, maybe you don't like what they feed the students, whatever your reasoning, it's ultimately your decision to make. This doesn't have to mean that it is a horrible, boring lunch, though. You can always make your child's lunch so much better than the school lunch that your child's friends end up begging their parents to send theirs to school with them, too.

Fun lunch ideas for children• Send notes—many children like to have a note in their lunch box from their mom or dad. They will probably hit a phase at some point where they don't want their friends seeing that their mommy sent them a note, but this phase usually doesn't hit until they are older.

• Have a cool lunchbox—whatever is inside always tastes better if the lunchbox is one that your child can be proud of. Something this simple can make the difference between your child being proud to take his lunch and begging you to send money instead.

• Fun food—having fun foods inside can make lunch very enjoyable for your child. You can buy lunchables, or other kits like this that come with do-it-yourself meals. This makes lunch a lot more fun. Or, such things as drinkable yogurts or cookies with their favorite cartoon character on them.

• Send surprises—it can be something as simple as a sticker stuck in the lunchbox. This is a great way to make your child look forward to taking their lunch from home everyday. Sort of like a child's meal at a restaurant, they look forward to that surprise inside.

• Send their favorite foods—if your child loves peaches, send a peach with him. This works even better when your child's favorite is something that the school never offers.

• Fun containers—this can get really fun for kids. Everything from bags with designs on them to cool cups with lids to ice packs in the shape of footballs can make a lunch a lot of fun.

• Let your child pick—if you let your child go shopping with you to buy their lunch stuff, it can make them actually look forward to taking their lunch, even when all of their friends are buying theirs at school.

Whether your child's sack lunch is fun or not may seem very trivial to an adult, but in the child's world, it is an important thing. Often, kids don't get to make even the smallest decisions such as how they get their lunch during school. While this is fine, it never hurts to make it a little more enjoyable for them.
